WMC Statement on Methodist Church Attack in Quetta
The World Methodist Council has learned with horror and sadness of the bombing and shooting at Bethel Memorial Methodist Church in Quetta, Pakistan, in which at least nine people were killed and many injured. We offer our deepest sympathy to those whose families have been visited with violent death and injury in this attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the congregation, the Church of Pakistan, and all those affected by this atrocity.
We condemn unequivocally all such violence perpetrated in the name of religion and against those who are in minority communities wherever these may be. We urge those in positions of influence and responsibility to do all that is possible, by both word and action, to prevent such atrocities against innocent people.
As we celebrate the coming of the Prince of Peace as a vulnerable child into an oppressed land, our prayer is that violent hands may be stayed, that peace may prevail in God’s world, and that all may live in safety.
Behold, I will create a new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered nor will they come to mind. (Isaiah 65:17)
