Where to Donate for Hurricane Sandy Relief

Say all the negative things you like about Sandy but she reminded us about our interconnectedness and how our destinies are intertwined. Sandy reminded us that we are our brothers and sisters’ keeper – Americans, Bahamians, Haitians, Cubans, Jamaicans and all humanity. She also reminded us of the old adage: Today for me, tomorrow for you – this means we have to change the way we relate to each other. – Rev. Christopher Neely, World Methodist Council Member from the Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church.

By now we all know someone or have felt the sting of Hurricane Sandy, whose path left a wake of disaster and woe from the Caribbean through the Eastern United States of America. The results are staggering; 170 people dead and over $50 billion dollars in damage, and those numbers are still rising.

The recovery from a storm of this magnitude is one that won’t be measured in hours or days and goes beyond fixing damaged buildings, healing injuries and rebuilding infrastructure. The rebuilding from an event like this will continue long past when the collective attention of the world moves on to other events.

Because of the wandering nature of human interest, it is important that each of us does what they can to help and to give money to those who will be there long after the debris is cleared.

What follows is a list of church-related charities and ways that each of us may help those battered by this horrific storm:
