Arising out of the conflict within the Methodist Episcopal Church over the Wesleyan interpretation of the doctrine of entire sanctification as well as issues such as slavery, free pews, secret societies, and freedom in worship, concerned ministers and laymen in eastern New York State encouraged Benjamin Titus Roberts to lead them in forming a new church.

Igniting a Spirit-fueled movement that catalyzes the multiplication of leaders and churches is what the Free Methodist Church most deeply desires. Having been organized since 1860, the church now has a global reach of over 1.5 million people and is in over 100 countries across the globe. We have a set of shared values across the denomination we call “The Free Methodist Way.” We value:
  • Live-Giving Holiness – Holiness of life is about not just removing the penalty of sin but empowering the believer to live a life with power over sin.

Igniting a Spirit-fueled movement that catalyzes the multiplication of leaders and churches is what the Free Methodist Church most deeply desires. Having been organized since 1860, the church now has a global reach of over 1.5 million people and is in over 100 countries across the globe.

We have a set of shared values across the denomination we call “The Free Methodist Way.”

We value:

  • Live-Giving Holiness – Holiness of life is about not just removing the penalty of sin but
empowering the believer to live a life with power over sin.
  • Love-Driven Justice – Valuing the image of God in all people of all races and
backgrounds, we seek justice, drive by love for all, wherever injustice rules.
  • Christ-Compelled Multiplication – The church was always intended to multiply, and
we therefore equip and encourage toward that end.
  • Cross-Cultural Collaboration – We value what the global church can impart toward
the movement we seek as we live in holy interdependence with one another globally.
  • God-Given Revelation – We hold unwaveringly to the truth that the Bible is the
inspired word of God with authority over our lives and is our final word in all matters
    of faith and practice.

The FMCUSA is involved in world missions, child sponsorship, freedom ministries – freeing those in bondage from human trafficking, and countless other initiatives through our local
churches. Light + Life Communications is responsible for the church’s websites, social media, publishing, magazine, and graphic design.

We are members of the FMC World Conference (https://fmworldconference.org) and share with the global church in guiding our global movement in the fulfillment of our mission and
vision.
