Methodist Liaison Office in Jerusalem​

The Methodist Liaison Office in Jerusalem is a partnership of the World Methodist Council, the Methodist Church of Great Britain [https://www.methodist.org.uk/] and the United Methodist Church [https://www.umc.org/en]. Its purpose is to increase international awareness and involvement of the Methodist community in the issues affecting Israel and Palestine.

The office is located at Tantur Ecumenical Institute [https://tantur.org/] located close to Checkpoint 300, the main entry point to Bethlehem from Jerusalem.

Its role is to be a presence on behalf of World Methodism in the Holy Land. This involves:

        ·   Working ecumenically with churches, community organizations, and individuals seeking to provide                 support to disadvantaged situations.

        ·   Welcoming Methodist pilgrimage groups from around the world.

        ·   Supporting and enabling volunteers to have the opportunity to assist in projects and meet local people.

        ·  Being Ecumenical associate ministers at St Andrew’s Church of Scotland, Jerusalem, Tiberia and the UMC        Filipino Congregation in Telaviv.

        ·  Engaging in advocacy – especially writing about life in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. 

Angleena Keizer is a British Methodist minister she was ordained in 2005 and served in the East Anglia district for more than 10 years. She was a minister in the Kings Lynn and Ely and Newmarket Circuits. Angleena has a passion for serving overseas and undertook many short international missions before becoming a Mission Partner. She served as a Mission Partner for two years at Kollupitya Methodist Church in Colombo, Sri Lanka before relocating to serve with the Methodist Liaison Office in Jerusalem in 2018. Angleena enjoys traveling, walking, watching films and spending time with her family and friends. She is committed to non-violent ways to seek justice and peace.

 

 

Samar Hashweh is a Palestinian born in Jerusalem. She is a committed Christian worshiping at the Greek Orthodox Church in the Old City of Jerusalem. She has been the office manager of the MLO since 2019. Her life and

 previous work experiences have enabled her to contribute at the MLO and to act as a bridge between the Palestinians, Israelis and the International Communities. She is one of the 12 Faces of Hope for the World Council of Churches, alongside people of other faiths sharing hopes and dreams for Justice and Peace in the Holy Land. She enjoys spending time with family, traveling, learning languages and reading. 

The MLO staff provides pilgrim and volunteer opportunities to visit the holy sites and experience transformative engagement among local Christians, Muslims, and Jews to build relationships and to help pilgrims better understand about the Holy Land.
