The World Methodist Council joins the Council of Bishops of the Evangelical Methodist Churches of Latin America and the Caribbean (CIEMAL) in expressing deep concern over the recent military intervention by the United States in Venezuela. At a time when millions of Venezuelans continue to face economic hardship, displacement, and uncertainty, the escalation of armed conflict threatens to bring additional suffering to vulnerable communities and further destabilize the region. Methodist leaders throughout Latin America and the Caribbean have called upon the global church to stand in prayerful solidarity with the people of Venezuela and all those affected by violence.
As followers of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, we affirm the sacred dignity of every human life and reject actions that place civilian populations at risk. The Gospel calls Christians to pursue justice through reconciliation, dialogue, and respect for the God-given worth of every person. While nations may differ on political and ideological matters, the church’s witness must remain rooted in peacemaking, compassion, and the pursuit of solutions that uphold human rights and the common good.
We invite Methodists and Christians around the world to pray for peace in Venezuela, for wisdom among political leaders, and for the protection of families caught in the midst of conflict. May God strengthen the churches of the region as they minister to those experiencing fear, loss, and uncertainty. Let us join our voices in crying out to God for peace, respect for human dignity, and the preservation of life, trusting that God’s justice and mercy remain at work even in the most difficult circumstances.
