This week, the World Methodist Council Steering Committee has been meeting in Accra, Ghana. It has been a time of reflection, fellowship, and worship.

From 23rd to 28th June, about 50 young adults, representing Methodist, Wesleyan, United and Uniting churches from around the world, is gathered in the Republic of Korea for the first Young Adult Pilgrimage of Peace (YAPP), visiting places such as Gwangju, Daejeon, Paju and Seoul.

Building on the spirit and action calls of the Methodist Roundtable, jointly organised by the Korean Methodist Church (KMC), The General Board of Global Ministries – United Methodist Church (GBGM-UMC), and with the World Methodist Council (WMC) through its Youth and Young Adult Committee (WMC YYA), the Korea Peace Night at the 22nd World Methodist Council inspired Methodists and Wesleyans worldwide to reaffirm their commitment to peace in the Korean Peninsula and globally.

WMC YYA Committee celebrates the faithful commitment of the young adults and the collaborative spirit of the churches involved. This Pilgrimage reflects the shared vision of raising a generation of leaders equipped to be peacemakers and bridge-builders.

Prayers are invited:

• For safe and smooth travels for all participants, some of whom are coming from regions experiencing deep tension and unrest;
• For courage, humility, and openness as the group engages with the history, people, and ministry of Korea;
•  And for the ongoing work of the Korean Church in its powerful witness for peace and reconciliation.

New International Financial and Economic Architecture: Faith-based Perspectives on Financing the Future

The World Council of Churches, together with partner organisations, will co-host this Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development side event, bringing faith and community leaders together to explore urgent solutions to the world’s escalating financial, social, and ecological crises. This collaborative initiative, New International Financial and Economic Architecture: Faith-based Perspectives on Financing the Future, will present concrete proposals for mobilizing resources for economic wellbeing, social protection, and planetary restoration.

“While the world has never been wealthier, many countries face devastating debt burdens, and developing nations need $4.3 trillion annually to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, including $1.8 trillion for climate resilience,” said Athena Peralta, director of the WCC Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development.

Roundtable discussions will feature faith-rooted, ethical perspectives on alternative financing models for a climate-resilient future that leaves no one behind.

• Panel 2: Perspectives from ecclesial leaders, youth, and women advocates
• Interactive discussions following each panel session

Mr. Joshua Rathnam Chinthala, Vice President of the World Methodist Council, brings greetings to the Lutheran World Federation Council meeting that took place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) held on 11-16 June 2025. 

The meeting, focused on the theme Be My Witnesses,” was hosted by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus.

Mr. Chinthala expressed gratitude for the long collaboration between Methodists and Lutherans and the spirit of hospitality that leads forward towards unity. He noted that in his country, India, Lutherans and Methodists cooperate closely together through the National Council of Churches.
