 Dear Friends of World Methodism,
The World Methodist Council is a Christian World Communion that brings together member Churches in the Methodist/Wesleyan family for support, education, the sharing of ideas and resources for ministry, to provide a common witness, and to hold each other accountable for the ministry of making disciples of Jesus Christ. The World Methodist Council is the voice of the Methodist/ Wesleyan family around the world. The lives of more than 75 million people are touched by the ministries of Methodist/Wesleyan families today.
The Council began in 1881 in London, England, and continues to be the vital link among believers who share a heritage that dates back to the life of John Wesley. The 500 member Council meets at five year intervals. The most recent Council meeting was July 18-19, 2006 in Seoul, Korea. The Council will meet again August 1-3, 2011 in Durban, South Africa. The Council meeting will be followed by the 20th World Methodist Conference in Durban under the theme “Jesus Christ – for the Healing of the Nations.” We appreciate your interest in World Methodism, and ask for your prayers for our Churches around the world as we live and act in faithfulness and obedience to the Gospel.
